The previous year, the fake news of Amitabh Bachchan’s untimely death came as a rude shock to his devoted fans when it went viral on WhatsApp. His daughter-in-law and actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was also recently in a fake news scandal, when the gut-wrenching story of her ‘committing suicide’. The last time Amitabh Bachchan’s fake death rumour spread on WhatsApp, it said that the superstar had passed away February 23, 2016. The message read: “At about 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday (February 23, 2016), our beloved actor Amitabh Bachchan passed away. Amitabh Bachchan was born on October 11, 1942 in Allahabad. He will be missed but not forgotten.”
This is not the first time the Bachchan family has been a part of hoaxes. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was also in the news for allegedly committing suicide and when images of a similar looking woman in the hospital bed were shared on social media. Reports claimed that Aishwarya had taken an overdose of tranquilizers following constant ‘family quarrels’ over her steamy photo shoot with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil co-star Ranbir Kapoor. Utter nonsense! But this news had spread like wildfire and finally died out when the 43-year-old actress made an appearance at designer Manish Malhotra’s party in December 2016.
