One of the main highlight in all the Thanksgiving hype is the “Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade”. Its the 91st anniversary of the parade and it will take place this Thursday starting at 9:00 am in Manhattan. More than 3.5 million people are expected to come. According to Forbes, more than 22 million people tuned in to watch the parade on NBC in 2015 and this number is said to be increasing every year.
The parade travels down Central Park West from 77th Street to Columbus Circle, then along Central Park South to 6th Avenue, down 6th Avenue to 34th Street, then finally along 34th Street to Macy’s Herald Square (34th Street).
Every year more than 7500 people join the parade including marching bands, clowns and balloon handlers. The parade has been a tradition since it was started in 1924, and each year it gets bigger and better. This year’s Special guests will include Whoopi Goldberg , Gwen Stefani, Martha Stewart and many more.
The security this year is expected to be extra tight after the horrifying Manhattan terror attack last month that killed over 8 people. The Mayor Bill de Blasio stated in a conference that there will be a very strong presence of NYPD, he than added “stronger than ever”. “We’re doing everything to ensure a safe venue,” he said. “So come out and enjoy the day, but if you see something, say something.”
