Email marketing can be quite confusing if you’re just starting out. And the information out there can leave you confused and lost. So, my advice is, take one step at a time and don’t freak out. Don’t try to do everything at once. So, let’s dive a bit deeper into our topic for today, which is, making opt-ins or landing pages which are more likely to convert than others.
What is a landing page or opt-in form?
A landing page is basically a page where you want your traffic to land so that you can capture leads in the form of emails. Once you’ve captured leads, you can nurture them over time to convert them into customers. So, if you want people to give you their personal email addresses, you need to give them a valid reason to do so.
On your opt-in pages or landing pages, you want to give people something of value for free, in exchange for their email addresses. So, it’s important that you actually provide value. It can be in the form of an ebook, a cheatsheet, a video series, an online course, it can be anything. So, to be able to make people believe that what you’re offering is worth giving their emails for, you’ve gotta put in the work.
How do opt-ins work?
Your opt-ins or landing pages are connected to an email autoresponder. An autoresponder is used to deliver the ebook, cheatsheet, a course or whatever it is you’re giving away, every time someone enters their email address. Once someone enters their email address, they are in your system. You have their email in your database. Over time, you keep sending them free stuff, provide value and build trust. When you’ve built that trust, you can pitch them for a product.
Your email provider will help you run campaigns, manage your contact lists, and automate all the hard stuff. So, it’s advisable that you invest in a good email provider. It is advised to go for a paid option instead of a free one, as the free ones are super limited. And you need to know that nothing is free. Something may be free now, but it won’t always be free. The house never loses, so don’t fall victim to their games. Regardless, if you think that you don’t have the capital to invest in an email service just yet, it’s totally understandable. You can start off with the free stuff and work your way up.
You can make your landing page entirely free and quite easily using services or tools like Elementor, Canva and the like. Elementor gives you free and paid alternative, so, it’s for you to decide. I personally like elementor because it’s easy to use and it gets the job done really quickly.
There are some things that must be clear in your landing page, these are
- Everything on your page should derive the people that see to a single goal, which is to opt-in and give their email address. If any element doesn’t motivate the audience to take the action you want, get rid of it.
- Be clear. Be very clear about what you’re offering and what you want people to do. Don’t confuse the audience and make sure your interface is easy to navigate for everyone who lands there. Keep things simple.
- Always leave some amount of padding. Padding makes it look like your content has breathing room. Use the white space, it makes the page look neat and roomy.
- Make people the offer they can’t refuse. provide immense value.
What should your opt-in look like?
Your opt-in or landing page must be eye-catching and engaging for the people who land there. Make a little effort to make it look good. Use vibrant colors or the ones that suit your theme. Use good fonts and make the letters big enough that they’re easily visible.
Use images and make sure that your page covers the entire screen. When you have people on your landing page, you don’t want to distract them with anything. You need to achieve your call to action before you do anything else. You can use testimonials and reviews. They really help to build trust. When you do that, make sure the testimonials are social and people feel like they’re normal genuine people.
In the end, you can add the companies or firms that you’re affiliated with. It makes the page look authentic and helps you build your own brand value. Make your page as much visually appealing as you possibly can. You need a lead magnet, it has to look appealing to the eye to serve its purpose.
How to find or create a product to give away for free?
You can offer a lot of things to people in exchange for their email addresses. You can make a 7 day video course about something related to your niche, you can write a pdf or a small ebook about a certain topic, you can give away a cheatsheet to help people get the results they want relatively faster.
Ebooks and pdfs are not that effective as they used to be. They still work, but not as good as they used to. Nowadays, people know that it will probably be a 5 to 7-page document in the name of an ebook that they probably won’t be able to use. So, instead of an ebook, you should go for something concrete. A video series or a cheatsheet is much more likely to bring you leads as compared to an ebook or a free pdf.
Getting a ready-made product to give away for free
If you don’t want to do the work, you can get a premade product that you can give away for free. There are platforms all over the internet where you can find what you need for free, you just need to look right.
This is my personal favorite platform to buy or get free products from. They give two gold products for free. But check the guidelines before you use anything. In the free membership, they give you access to 200 free products and 2 gold products of your choice as a bonus. It’s really great and I think you should really use it.
Search for a product of your niche in the search bar and click the advanced search beside that. Now, select a product according to your needs. But always make sure to click ‘can be given away for free’ box. You need permission from the creators to use their product as a lead magnet.
Embedding a pop up on your website
Embedding a pop up on your site can also help. A pop up is basically a page that pops up on the screen which asks people for their email address. But make sure you don’t over do it, it can be really annoying.
Making a good quality pop up can help you capture some extra leads. Try not to do it on every page of your website. Once you get people’s emails, try to serve them right. Don’t always expect them to buy, keep providing value and eventually they will. Focus on building your list. If you don’t have a list, you don’t have a business.
