Time management is something that we all struggle with. Timetables and schedules just don’t seem to work. I’ve been there, and surely so have you. Everyone tries to stick to time tables and schedules, but the longest I’ve survived is less than a week. So, how do we deal with it? How do we manage time and actually be productive?
Our minds trick us by making us think that we’re doing something when we’re actually not. At that time, we’re just being busy instead of productive. We’re getting tired, our body is responding to a task but it lacks efficiency, takes longer to finish and a good amount of time is wasted which could have been saved. Being productive means to get more done in a short period of time.
How to be more productive?
Self motivation is a lie, if you think you will feel motivated to do the difficult things, then let me assure you, it won’t happen. We never do things that we need to do, unless we absolutely have to. It’s not your fault, it’s human nature. When something becomes a necessity, it gets done.
Our biggest problem is that we set things aside to do in the future. We procrastinate the work at hand to tomorrow, knowing that it will never come. Tomorrow is fatal. What you need to know is, it’s YOU against YOU. In the end, you bear the consequences, so make the wise decision.
Limiting decision making to manage time
Okay, so this one really does work. If you eliminate your everyday decision making to a significant amount, you will end up having a lot more time than you thought possible. Doing things does not take that much time, deciding things does. If you eliminate things like where to eat, what to wear, when to eat, etc. by planning it beforehand, it can significantly help you manage time. Cultivating selective ignorance helps you stay stress free, more productive, and removes unnecessary clutter. Always remember, you don’t have to get a lot of things right if you pick the right things.
Eliminate everyday decision making as much as possible. This will help you focus more on the things that actually matter. So, your decision making is more focused where it’s actually needed. It also helps you stay creative and as an entrepreneur or a business person, this can especially prove to be beneficial. Doing less, is actually doing more.
Waking up early seems like the hardest thing to achieve, but how you start your day can help you get those extra hours. Every successful person includes some form of meditation in their daily routine. Even 5 to 10 minute meditation everyday can help you stay more focused and overall healthy.
If you wake up before the sun does, your day automatically longer than an average person. Morning hours are considered best for every kind of work. So, I think it’s pretty much obvious that it’s important.
Low information diet
We live in the internet age, where information is literally one click away. Our generation is wired with a false belief that knowing more is better. We are told that knowing more is the key, and it’s kind of flawed. We don’t need more information, we need important information. So, like we discussed before that doing less was doing more, well, knowing less is knowing more too. If you only focus on the important things, it can help you manage your time most effectively.
Ask yourself the following questions to prioritize what’s important
- Which one of the things on my to-do list if completed would make everything else easier or irrelevant?
- What can I do now which would make me satisfied by the end of the day?
- Which of these things if completed save me more time next week?
